About Jason McDonald

What will my student get out of tutoring?
Individual attention, encouragement and feedback that results in improved academic performance. Your student will surpass his or her own preconceived limitations to the extent that they become a self-directed learner. Their grades will improve, they will feel more confident about school, and more, your students will become proud of their accomplishments. Don't take my word for it - see what parents, students and teachers have said about what they got out of tutoring - visit the tutor references page.

Are you experienced working with learning disabilities?
Yes. I have had success working with students diagnosed with learning differences such as ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder, as well as many physical and cognitive learning disabilities. I work with teachers, parents, and therapists to integrate all aspects of the student's development into the learning process.

How soon will I see results?
Your student's confidence will be greater in as soon as one session. If you or your student's expectations are not exceeded after one session or a month's block of sessions, you do not pay for those sessions. Just let me know what expectations were not met and I will refer you to other resources at no cost.

What subjects do you tutor?
I tutor most math and science subjects offered in school, as well as standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, GED, GRE, etc). Some of these classes include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, physics, and general science courses. I may know people that tutor subjects that I don't.

What hours do you tutor?
I primarily tutor weekdays in the afternoon and evening, although I'm available on weekends in some cases. Scheduling is flexible and I can accommodate your busy lifestyle in most cases.

How do you motivate a student?
I believe there is only one way for a student to be motivated -- from within.  No matter what level a student is at, I provide opportunities for success.  Once a student experiences success, they want more of it.  This desire is motivation.

Do you work with small groups?
Yes.  If you know of several people that have a common goal, I may be able to help.  I do not work with groups of widely varying abilities as that takes away from many of the advantages of one-to-one tutoring.

How is your program different than that of a learning center such as Sylvan?

Learning centers often have one teacher/tutor for several students and they often focus on their own curriculum.  I provide students with my undivided attention and use their class curriculum as our primary focus.  I do not have initial start up fees or long term contracts.  I want my students to use as much time as they need for success.
